BC Original Minds - Celebrating 25 Years of Creative Problem Solving
FIRST Lego League (FLL) is an international program for
children created in a partnership between FIRST and the LEGO Company. Each
September, FLL announces the annual Challenge, which
engages the teams in
hands-on robotics design and authentic scientific research. After eight
intense
weeks, the FLL season culminates at high-energy, sports-like tournaments. In
2003 over 43,000 children from 14 countries participated in the FLL program.
FIRST Lego League British Columbia (FLL BC) was formed in
2003 to hold the first annual FLL tournament in British Columbia, Canada.
Seventeen teams of children attended the November 29, 2003 tournament in North
Vancouver, demonstrating their teamwork and technical skills, competing for the
Director's Cup trophy, and above all having fun!
In 2004 the BC tournament grew in size to 26 teams, and BC was also chosen as
one of the pilot sites for the Junior FLL program. FLL BC continues to grow, and
in this 5th anniversary year we are holding three regional tournaments in
addition to the BC provincial championship tournament!
